About the Opportunity
The Workgroup Leader, Horticulture plays a key role in shaping how our city’s green spaces are cared for and enjoyed by the community. Sitting within the City Operations Program, this role supports the day-to-day coordination of Horticultural maintenance across Adelaide, helping our teams deliver safe, high-quality and well-planned services.
You’ll work closely with the Horticulture teams to guide daily operations, support workflows, and ensure resources are allocated effectively. Much of the role centres on bringing people together, connecting specialist knowledge with practical processes, sharing advice with leaders, and helping your team build the capability and confidence to deliver great outcomes.
This position also contributes to broader program planning by supporting the Team Leader, Horticulture and the Manager, City Presentation. You’ll play an important part in improving systems, responding to customer needs, managing risk, and ensuring our work aligns with organisational guidelines, legislation, and community expectations.
A strong focus on collaboration, communication, and coaching is essential. The Workgroup Leader creates an environment where people feel supported to grow, where safety and wellbeing are part of everyday practice, and where continuous improvement helps teams deliver their best work for the city.
At its core, this role is about leading people, supporting capability, and helping our Horticulture teams deliver services that contribute to a vibrant, green and well-maintained Adelaide.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A Diploma in Horticulture and/or substantial experience in a relevant field.
- Sound knowledge and experience in managing a diverse range of Horticultural functions provided by the City of Adelaide.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage people effectively, coordinating work and resources across complex projects while building team capability and driving high performance.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, managing, and delivering projects on time and within budget, including scoping, scheduling, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively liaise and engage with members of the public and community groups.
