About the Opportunity

As part of the City Operations Program, the Horticulture Technical Officer plays a key role in shaping and supporting the delivery of horticultural projects and initiatives across the city. Working closely with our Horticulture Workgroup Leaders, this role is involved from early planning stages through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered to agreed quality, cost and timeframe targets while contributing to the outcomes of our Strategic Plan.

 

 

This position combines technical expertise with coordination and collaboration. You will provide timely, practical advice to support decision-making, align projects across programs and strengthen relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders. A strong focus of the role is building partnerships with community groups, private enterprise and cultural organisations to help create dynamic, creative and sustainable places and green spaces for the City of Adelaide.

 

 

The Horticulture Technical Officer is responsible for coordinating and implementing projects in consultation with Workgroup Leaders, supporting stakeholder engagement and communication, managing customer requests in line with our Customer Experience strategy and ensuring works are delivered in accordance with Horticultural Guidelines. The role also contributes to research, reporting and presentations that inform longer-term priorities, while supporting contract management activities including specification development, tender evaluation and ongoing monitoring.

 

 

In addition, you will coordinate project budgets, oversee purchasing in line with Council policy, support effective rostering of works and explore innovative approaches to project delivery. About you

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience in the provision of service delivery in the Horticulture realm, including work programming and cost estimating.
  • Experience and understanding of contract and project management within a Horticultural environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the organising and scheduling of staff across multiple skill sets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, complex tasks, challenging projects and competing deadlines concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, contractors and volunteers in order to manage work and efficient use of resources in delivery across a complex range of areas and projects.
  • Experience and knowledge in all areas of Project Management.
