About the Opportunity 

As part of the City Operations Program, the Graduate, Biodiversity will be hands-on in helping to protect and grow Adelaide’s natural environment. The role supports the delivery of Council’s Integrated Climate Strategy, Biodiversity Area Management Plans, and Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy, while contributing to projects that restore and care for our Park Lands.

 

 

Day to day, the Graduate will assist with community engagement, support volunteer biodiversity programs, and work alongside partners such as Green Adelaide and Bush for Life. The role involves biological surveys, site monitoring, and contributing to initiatives like seed collection, native plant propagation, and nursery stock-take which are all aimed at strengthening the City’s ecological future and supporting project requirements.

 

 

The Graduate will also be involved in planning, contractor coordination, and biodiversity works including weed control, revegetation and restoration, always with a strong focus on safety and sustainability. There will be opportunities to support funding applications, coordinate projects, and share knowledge with community groups, schools and the public.

 

 

Working closely with teams across the organisation, the Graduate will play an important part in bringing conservation goals to life, while building their own skills and experience through the City of Adelaide’s Graduate Program. This includes contributing to cross-organisation projects, training opportunities, and professional development activities.

About You

To be eligible for this role you will have:

  • Graduated within approximately the last two (2) years, or are expecting to complete a degree in Environmental Management / Science, Biodiversity or Ecology within the next six (6) months.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work in an open, creative and collaborative project-based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and creatively and show initiative and self-discipline in daily tasks.
  • High level of initiative and self-discipline with ability to and prioritise a broad program of works and make decisions relevant to position.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.
