About the Opportunity
This is no ordinary project, and no ordinary role. The City of Adelaide is leading a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure UNESCO World Heritage Listing for Adelaide and its Rural Settlement Landscapes (‘the Bid’). We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and driven individual to step into the newly created position of World Heritage Project Management Officer. This is your chance to be at the forefront of an ambitious, high-profile project that will celebrate South Australia’s unique colonial and Aboriginal heritage on a global stage.
In this role, you’ll lead the coordination and development of the World Heritage nomination, working closely with heritage experts, consultants, Traditional Owners, community stakeholders, and government partners at every level. This isn’t just about heritage listing, it’s about cultural storytelling, community pride, economic opportunity, and forging a globally recognised identity for Adelaide and its surrounding regions.
This position is your platform to drive real change. You’ll build cross-sector alliances with government, community, business, and academia. You’ll play a pivotal role in promoting the Bid, securing public support, and making the case for World Heritage status at the highest levels of government. With strong internal support, a clear mandate, and wide-reaching external relationships, you’ll have the resources and momentum to make a meaningful and lasting impact.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Community Engagement, Marketing, Promotions, or related field and/or commensurate demonstrated experience in lieu of formal qualifications.
- A knowledge and understanding of:
- community engagement principles and processes and their application.
- social media, systems, online tools and software that supports engagement techniques
communication and marketing principles. - cultural heritage experience is not a pre-requisite, but a general understanding is preferable.
- previous experience relating to UNESCO World Heritage properties, including management, promotion.
- the unique character of South Australia, and in particular Adelaide with a drive to establish these as a destination, World renowned for its Aboriginal and colonial heritage.
- Experience in making decisions in a politically sensitive environment.
