About the Opportunity

As part of the Infrastructure Program, the Senior Transport Planner provides strategic transport, movement and accessibility advice to support the City of Adelaide's Strategic Plan and Integrated Transport Strategy.

Working across a range of city-shaping projects such as Integrated Transport Strategy Implementation, School Travel Safety and creating a new Kerbside Management Policy, you will lead the development and implementation of transport initiatives that improve connectivity, accessibility and mobility throughout the city. The role provides expert advice on transport infrastructure and policy, manages complex projects and stakeholder relationships, and contributes to transport outcomes in partnership with State and Australian Government agencies, consultants and the community.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, traffic engineering, transport planning or a related field, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Extensive (minimum 10-15 years) experience in multi-modal transport planning and infrastructure design, including pedestrian, cycling, micromobility and public transport networks.
• Experience on multi-disciplinary projects, with an understanding of urban design and the integration of transport planning and land use.
• Knowledge of best practice frameworks, including Movement and Place, the Safe System approach and Healthy Streets.
• Strong knowledge of transport-related legislation, standards and guidelines relevant to local government.
• Experience managing consultants, procurement activities and transport planning projects.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic advice, develop policies, prepare grant submissions, manage complex projects and influence transport outcomes. Experience developing business cases would be viewed favourably.
• Experience implementing strategies and developing forward works programs, including with alignment with asset renewal programs, and determining project scopes and concepts based on data and framework assessment. 
• Knowledge and ability to interpret the Road Traffic Act (1961), relevant Australian Standards and Austroads Guidelines, and The Australian Road Rules (1999), DIT’s Code of Technical Requirements including associated Operational Instructions, Guidelines and Standards.
• Well-developed stakeholder engagement, consultation and communication skills
