About the Opportunity
This is an opportunity to lead one of the City of Adelaide’s most visible and community-impacting service portfolios, shaping how safety, compliance and public amenity are experienced across the city every day.
As Manager, City Safety, you will lead a broad and diverse regulatory services function, overseeing four key operational teams: Building Compliance, Environmental Health, Community Safety and On-Street Parking Compliance. Together, these teams play an important role in protecting public health, maintaining safe and accessible public spaces, supporting development compliance, managing on-street parking turnover and responding to community safety concerns across the city.
This is a role for a strategic and people-focused leader who can balance legislative compliance with community outcomes. You will guide the delivery of regulatory and statutory obligations while driving service improvement, shaping contemporary compliance frameworks and building a strong culture centred on education, prevention and fair enforcement.
Working across a complex stakeholder environment, you will partner closely with internal leaders, external agencies and elected members to respond to emerging risks, legislative changes and community expectations. At its core, this role is about creating safer spaces, healthier environments and a more liveable city for everyone who works, lives and visits Adelaide.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-function team, providing effective leadership and mentoring which continually builds capability, and manages performance.
- Extensive experience in coordinating the compliance aspects of a regulatory or public safety function.
- Extensive experience of successfully leading and managing large and/or complex operational teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of, or experience working with, relevant legislation as it relates to public safety and the provision of Council services.
- Substantial experience in developing positive relationships and consulting, negotiating, communicating and influencing with all levels of management and staff, government agencies, stakeholders and the community, both verbally and in writing.

Please be advised this is a full-time, 5-year contract opportunity with a total remuneration package in the range of $189,000 - $193,000 per annum including superannuation.
