About the Opportunity
As part of the Governance and Strategy Program, the Corporate Governance Officer supports the Manager Corporate Governance & Risk and the broader Corporate Governance & Risk Team to ensure Council meets its legislative and governance obligations. This role plays a key part in strengthening sound governance practices across the organisation through the provision of clear advice, effective processes and timely delivery of key governance functions.
The position has primary responsibility for the efficient and effective management of Freedom of Information applications in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1991. As an accredited Freedom of Information Officer, you will assess and determine applications, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, manage statutory timeframes and prepare complex determinations using sound judgement and a high level of legislative knowledge. You will also manage Council’s FOI systems, reporting and compliance requirements, including oversight of the FOIMs online program.
In addition, the Corporate Governance Officer will assist in the management of Council’s insurance portfolio and claims process, providing analysis, reporting and advice to support appropriate risk and insurance outcomes. The role also contributes to a range of governance activities including administration of the Common Seal, registered business name renewals, provision of governance advice across the organisation and delivery of administrative support that underpins the team’s objectives. Working collaboratively, you will build strong relationships across Council and demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow within the Governance program while contributing to improved governance outcomes for the organisation.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Accreditation as an FOI Officer or willing to undertake training.
- Demonstrated experience in the understanding of legislation and regulations.
- Experience in claims management processes.
- Strong organisational skills, the ability to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.
- Extensive experience in providing a broad range of administrative support services.
- Experience in applying/managing best practice business principles and practices to the development and delivery of strategies, development plans, initiatives, programs, policy and procedures for the management of initiatives, and monitoring and reporting on outcomes.
